There are specific types of foods you need to steer clear of while having braces in order to maintain healthy teeth and the continued nourishing of your smile. With that being said, some of your most treasured treats are an option. We’ve gone ahead and listed out some of the treats that are safe to consume with braces:
Pies & Cakes
Luckily, most cakes are lightweight and tasty, and are completely acceptable to eat with braces. However, keep in mind that you should stay away from cakes that contain crunchy toppings or fillings. This is true for pies as well. Don’t eat pies that have nuts or potentially harmful toppings. Examples of delicious pies that you can munch on with braces include: pumpkin, key lime, chocolate silk, and other cream or custard pies.
Pudding
As I’m sure you’re already aware, pudding and Jello are some of the safest options of treats for patients with braces. Their soft texture poses no threat to braces and usually come in a variety of tasty flavors that can please your sweet tooth.
Cookies
Certain kinds of cookies are okay to eat with braces, but they must be soft and chewy instead of hard and thick. Examples of delicious cookies to eat are chocolate chip, peanut butter, snickerdoodle, sugar, oatmeal, and any other flavor you can think of, as long as there are no ingredients that can potentially damage your braces.
Frozen Yogurt & Ice Cream
Nothing beats nice cold ice cream on a warm summer day. Ice cream is a wonderful dessert that won’t endanger your braces treatment—it’s soft, smooth, and creamy. Just like the other sweets, stay away from toppings that have a hard texture and you’ll be fine.
Use Your Brain
Sure there are tons of delicious treats you can taste while wearing affordable braces, however, you must not forget to watch your sugar intake because it can cause tooth decay and cavities. One of the worst things that can happen while wearing braces is to grow a cavity that requires emergency treatment to rescue your tooth. It’s okay to treat yourself with an occasional sugary snack, but do your best to limit your consumption to once a day or less to increase your chances of having the best possible smile.
